Meet Clumsy The Robot!

STEAM is something that is very important right now in the classroom. STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math. All of these things should be incorporated in the classroom in order for students to be working and learning to the best of their ability. Using and referring to STEAM in the curriculum is beneficial because STEAM touches base on all or most important aspects of learning. How do robots play a role in the use of STEAM? In order to build a robot you need to use strategy, precision, and be able to come up with a logical step by step plan. It is also just fun to do which helps keep students entertained while they also stimulate their brains! Some great articles to read about the use of robotics in STEAM and STEM curriculums are: How Can Robotics Bring STEM Learning to Life? and 5 Reasons to Include Robotics in Early STEM Education.

This is our robot, Clumsy Ly! Clumsy is an ambitious and energetic robot who was born on April 10, 2019. He weighed only 1 pound and 1 oz when when he was born.  Clumsy is very adventurous. Once you activate his energy power, he can’t stop moving. The name is fitting because he is actually very clumsy! He is always bumping into something and/or falling over. Clumsy represents overcoming adversity which is how he received his name.

Clumsy was diagnosed with ADHD when he was going into the 1st grade. He was finding it hard to sit still for long periods of time and he could not pay attention to what the teacher was saying. His parents took him to see a specialist and she was able to diagnose him. After he figured out what the issue was he able to face the challenges head on and get help from his classmates and teachers.

His struggle with ADHD is challenging, but it is still very manageable once taken control of. We hope this teaches everyone that even though learning with a disability can be difficult, it can still be conquered.
